Leitmotifs are recurring musical themes or motifs that are associated with specific characters, places, emotions, or ideas in operas. These motifs are used to help convey and reinforce the dramatic and emotional elements of the story. By associating specific musical themes with certain characters or ideas, composers are able to create a deeper connection between the music and the narrative, enhancing the overall impact of the opera. This technique was popularized by composers such as Richard Wagner, who used leitmotifs extensively in his operas to create a rich and complex musical tapestry. **
